Overview

International reach:

  • Calls from International numbers are supported.

Domestic reach:

  • Domestic Vonage numbers must only be used to place calls via Vonage Voice API.
  • Domestic calls from non-Vonage numbers are best effort only. However, number port-in is possible for Japan toll-free, 0570 (Navi Dial) and 0ABJ numbers. Please note that number port-in is not available for 050 numbers. Please contact your account manager if you would like to port your non-Vonage number to us.
  • The self-service buying of numbers is not available for Japan at this time on Vonage's Customer Dashboard. Customers can still request a new number from Customer Dashboard by filling in and submitting the required information or by contacting their Account Manager to start the order. After the request is reviewed and there is no issue, the new number will be reserved for customer.
CLI

No limitations apart from Local CLI or Invalid CLIs as explained in In-Country, Local, or No-CLI Calls Rejected

For inbound calls to Japan Long Virtual Numbers (LVN), if the actual Caller ID number cannot be displayed or is not displayed, below are the Caller IDs that may be displayed and its reason.

Anonymous:Unable to present due to user refusal
Unavailable:There is no presentable information
Coinline/Payphone:Unable to present as the call is made from a public phone

Japan Toll-Free Numbers

Our Japan Toll-Free numbers are mapped to Direct Inward Dialing (DID) numbers.

Inbound call

Inbound calls to the Toll-Free number are forwarded to the customer's DID number. Therefore, the customer receives these calls to their DID number rather than the Toll-Free number.

Outbound call

Depending on the customer's Toll-Free number configurations, they can call using their DID number or both their DID and Toll-Free number.

  • If the customer is configured with a DID number, the end user will see the Toll-Free number as the Caller ID.
  • If the customer calls from a Toll-Free or DID number, the end user will receive the call with the same Caller ID as the From value in the call request.
