Overview

International reach:

  • There is heavy filtering by China operators. Calls may get blocked without prior warning and they will not disclose blocking reasons.
  • Please note that our international route is best effort only.
  • Average call duration must be 3 minutes or more, otherwise it is considered short duration and can get blocked by operators.
  • Short duration calls (eg. Voice OTP) and marketing calls are not allowed.
  • Vonage can provide voice termination to China, but please take note of the points mentioned above. This requires a pre-registration process currently restricted to managed accounts only. All non-registered traffic will be blocked by default. Contact your account manager if you would like to send voice traffic towards China.

Domestic reach:

  • Domestic Vonage numbers must only be used to place calls via Vonage Voice API.
  • Domestic calls from non-Vonage numbers are not allowed.
  • The self-service buying of numbers is not available for China at this time on Vonage's Customer Dashboard. Customers can still request a new number from Customer Dashboard by filling in and submitting the required information or by contacting their Account Manager to start the order. After the request is reviewed and there is no issue, the new number will be reserved for customer.
  • Please note that to buy a China number, the customer need to have a local entity and local representative.
  • Outbound calls from Toll Free numbers are not supported.

Use-Case & Content Guidelines

Content

Chinese operators do not allow short duration calls (eg. Voice OTP) and marketing calls. Any such traffic will be blocked at the request of the operators without warning. Unsolicited marketing calls are not allowed even towards users in the customer's existing customer database or members of their existing campaigns or programs unless:

  • Customer has obtained the consent data from the end users opt-in to receive the call.
  • Customer has to keep and provide the data to Vonage upon request within 24 hours whenever we receive complaint from the operators.
