Question

How does China Relay billing work?

Applies To

  • Video API
  • China Relay

Answer

China Relay is a surcharge on all the streams passing through the relay, in both directions. This would be applied on top of the pricing structure you're using (PM or SSM). The surcharge is $.003 per minute. The below example shows how to calculate the surcharge, which is then added to the underlying video session cost:

The below calculation is for a standard base PM cost, assuming there are two participants in a 60-minute session:

2 participants * 60min * $0.00395
Total cost for this session = $0.475 for this session

The below calculation also assumes there are two users in a 60-minute session. The main difference here is one user is publishing and subscribing from China:

2 streams passing through the relay (1 publisher out and 1 subscriber in)
2 streams * 60min * $0.003 surcharge = $0.360 surcharge for this session

Total cost for this session with the surcharge:
$0.475 + $0.360 = $0.834
