A common question we receive is: "My business is verified — why is my messaging limit still at 250 and my display name not visible to users?"

Business Verification is an important milestone, but it is not the only factor Meta evaluates. This article explains why your messaging limit may remain at 250 after verification, what controls display name visibility, and the steps you need to take to move forward.

Why Your Limit May Still Be at 250 After Verification

In some cases, even after successful business verification, Meta's systems may determine that your account needs to complete additional steps before the messaging limit can be increased. This is part of Meta's standard quality and trust analysis process.

When this happens, the recommendation is to organically scale to the 2,000 message tier by:

  • Sending 2,000 delivered messages outside of customer service windows

  • To unique WhatsApp user phone numbers

  • Within a 30-day moving period

  • Using templates with a high quality rating

Please refer to Meta's Messaging Limits & Scaling Paths for full details on how to increase your messaging limit by following the scaling paths.

Once this threshold is met, Meta will re-evaluate your account and increase your messaging limit accordingly.

Tip: Use the WhatsApp Business Platform regularly over several days, always follow Meta's Quality Rating and Messaging Limits guidelines, and maintain a high quality rating — these are essential for any limit increase.

Why Your Display Name Is Not Visible

Display name visibility is directly tied to your messaging limit. The display name review is only triggered once your account reaches a messaging limit of at least 2,000 messages per rolling 24-hour period.

This means:

  • If your messaging limit is still at 250, the display name review will not be triggered — regardless of your verification status

  • Once you reach the 2,000 limit, WhatsApp will automatically initiate a review of your display name in line with WhatsApp's Display Name Guidelines

  • Until the display name is reviewed and approved, users will see your phone number instead of your business name in the chat list and chat header

Note: Customers can still send and receive messages even if the display name is pending review or has not yet been approved. Display name visibility does not affect messaging functionality.
