Overview

If you see the message "Before you can begin messaging, Vonage Communication APIs & Conversational Commerce Platform will need to verify your business. You'll receive an email when it is complete" in your WhatsApp Manager for your Restricted Accounts, this indicates a Meta account restriction issue, not a verification service provided by Vonage.

Important: This error message is misleading. Vonage does not perform business verification on behalf of customers. Business verification is completed directly with Meta through a self-service process.

Symptom

You may encounter this message in the following scenarios in your WhatsApp Manager Dashboard, as shown in the screenshot:

  • New WhatsApp Business Accounts (WABAs) that are restricted immediately after creation

  • Existing accounts that become restricted for Meta policy or integrity reasons

  • Accounts showing as "Restricted" in WhatsApp Manager, even if your business is already verified

 

Understanding the Message

This message indicates that your WhatsApp Business Account is restricted by Meta. The wording suggests that Vonage needs to verify your business, but this is not properly structured and hence misleading.

What this actually means:

  • Your account has been flagged or restricted by Meta's automated systems or policy enforcement

  • You need to complete actions directly with Meta to resolve the restriction

  • Business verification (if not yet complete) should be done through Meta's self-service process

Resolution

Follow these steps based on your situation:

For NEW Accounts That Are Restricted + Business Not Yet Verified

  1. Complete business verification directly with Meta

    • Navigate to your Meta Business Manager Settings

    • Check your Business Verification Status under "Business Info"

    • If showing "Unverified", follow the Business Verification process

  2. Appeal the account restriction

    • Once verification is submitted or complete, navigate to Business Support Home in your Meta Business Manager

    • Look for any notifications about your restricted account

    • Click "Request Review" or "Appeal" if available

    • Note: Completing business verification first increases the chances of your appeal being approved

For Accounts Already Verified But Still Restricted

  1. Confirm your verification status

    • Go to Meta Business Manager Settings → Business Info-> WhatsApp Accounts-> Summary

    • Check if Business Verification status is showing as  "Verified

  2. Appeal the restriction directly

    • Navigate to Business Support Home from your WhatsApp Manager

    • Request a review of the restriction

    • You do not need to re-verify your business or contact Vonage for verification

After requesting review for your Restricted Accounts: 

  • Meta typically reviews appeals within 24-48 hours (though this can vary)

  • You will receive updates via:

    • Email from Meta

    • Notifications in your Meta Business Manager

    • Alerts in WhatsApp Manager

Important Notes

  • Vonage does NOT perform business verification for customers - this is always done directly by customers with Meta

  • Meta's Partner-led Business Verification (PLBV) is not used by Vonage

  • The error message text is misleading and does not accurately represent the process

  • This is a known issue that has been escalated to Meta for correction
