How to change the ownership of your WhatsApp Business Accounts(WABAs)

Asha Chintaluru

Objective

Meta recently announced plans to deprecate WhatsApp for Business Accounts (WABAs) that were created “on behalf of” (OBO), so all these WABAs need to be migrated to shared ownership.  This is a measure applied by Meta in order to give businesses more control over their accounts, and have a more consistent customer experience.

With the help of the steps below, you will be able to complete the WABA ownership change for your “on behalf of” (OBO) WABAs, in only 5 minutes!

Once completed, all your WABAs will appear under your own Business Manager as owned by you, and you will have full control of them.

Applies To

  • WhatsApp Business accounts (Vonage managed)

Procedure

Step 1: Go to your Business manager

Vonage have sent you a WABA ownership change notification into your Business Manager so the first step is to go to your own Business manager (NOT Vonage’s). This means, that in the main Meta Business Manager (BM), you should see your business's name in the top left corner (Please see example below).

Step 2: Find the “Requests” tab

Within your Business Manager, under the “Business Settings” page, you will find a tab called “Requests”. (Please, see the example below).

Step 3: Approve the request received

Inside the “Requests -> Received” tab, you will find the transfer notification. Basically, this means that Vonage is requesting to transfer your OBO WABA into your Business Manager.

Step 4: Provide confirmation to Vonage

Confirm that you own and still need the account as well as acknowledging that Vonage will still have access to it.

Step 5: Finish the ownership change process

Double-check that the number of accounts is the correct one and click on “Finish” to complete the WABA ownership change.
