Content
Message Content
Every message will automatically have either of the following leading text added for delivery:
- "[Web 발신]" - Means SMS sent from web
- "[국제발신]" - Means SMS sent from abroad
Simple Message Length
Message length is 140 bytes (140 characters in GSM-7 or 70 characters in Unicode), including the leading text (see Message Content above).
Concatenated Messages
Concatenated SMS in South Korea is delivered in a different format called LMS (Long Message Service). With LMS, customers can send text messages with up to 1000 Unicode or 2000 GSM characters in length as a single text message.
By default, LMS is supported towards SK Telecom operator and concatenated messages will be received by the end user as a single message. Vonage will bill those messages in the same way that SMS concatenation works in other destinations. For the rest of the networks, LMS is not supported and concatenated messages maybe trimmed off or delivered with different parts where the split parts may not be received in sequential order.
If you need full LMS support to all networks in South Korea, please reach out to your account manager.
Illegal Content
Illegal content, especially gambling and adult-related content, is not allowed to all Korean networks.
Spamming
Spamming or sending suspicious messages are not allowed. These are serious issues in South Korea and it may trigger suspending your account with investigation from local authorities.
Unicode
Korean networks support character encoding EUC-KR. Delivery of Chinese characters not guaranteed.
Binary
Binary messages are not supported.
Other Features and Restrictions
Delivery Receipts
Delivery Receipts are provided, however, they are not handset-generated and only indicate that the network has received the message.
