What are short codes?
A short code is a short virtual number that is usually 5 or 6 digits long. They are typically used to send bulk application to person (A2P) SMS messages for the purposes of Marketing, 2FA, and notifications.
Dedicated
Dedicated short codes are provisioned solely for one customer, you have dedicated access to that short code in that country. Dedicated short codes usually allow 2-way SMS. You can send and receive SMS with a dedicated short code.
US carriers have outlined requirements for 10 Digit Long Code, the new standard for A2P (application to person) SMS messaging using 10 digit geographic numbers in the US. This standard provides many benefits, including supporting higher messaging speeds and better deliverability on long code originators. A2P 10 DLC standards restrict using a single number with more than one brand. This also applies to Dedicated Short Code programs.
