Question
Are RTCP Sender Reports (SR) and Receiver Reports (RR) supported for Voice Calls
Applies to
- Voice API
- SIP Trunking
- RTCP Reports
Answer
Vonage supports RTCP, and both RTCP Sender Reports (SR) and Receiver Reports (RR) which can be generated depending on the call leg and endpoint behaviour.
- On the customer → Vonage leg, both RTCP Sender Reports and Receiver Reports will be present if the customer's SIP platform is configured to support RTCP reporting.
- On the Vonage → PSTN leg, it is expected in many cases to observe only RTCP Sender Reports. RTCP Receiver Reports depend on whether the far-end carrier or PSTN gateway generates and sends them.
- Some suppliers or carriers may not support or forward RTCP Receiver Reports, which can result in one-way RTCP reporting being observed.
Additionally, the absence of RTCP Receiver Reports in certain packet captures may be related to capture limitations or configuration rather than the absence of RTCP itself. RTCP visibility can vary across different call legs and endpoints depending on the SIP platform configuration, and supplier behaviour.
