Overview
Due to increased spam/smishing SMS in Ireland, the local Irish Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) established the Sender ID registry program, which will go live on 27th May 2025. Customers must first register their Sender IDs directly with the regulator’s registry portal to protect their Sender IDs (the SID owner). Once done, you can register the SID via *Vonage (see further below). All Sender IDs are subject to regulatory approval.
Key Dates of the ComReg Sender ID Registry Initiative
- May 27th 2025 - URL for upload into the ComReg Registry live on ComReg website
- July 2025 - Modification of Unregistered SenderIDs to be changed to “Likely Scam” when terminating to Irish Numbers
- October 2025 - Blocking of all Unregistered SenderIDs when attempting to terminate to Irish Numbers
Registration process
- Customers must first register their Sender IDs directly with the regulator’s registry portal to protect their Sender IDs (as the SID owner) and initiate the application profile.
- Customers must identify Vonage as their participating partner, this will allow Vonage to register any additional Sender ID's on behalf of the customer if they wish.
- Once the application is successful customers do not need to notify Vonage, Vonage will receive a confirmation from ComReg (this will take around 3-5 working days).
- After initial registration with ComReg, customers can apply for any additional Sender IDs via the GCN portal on the customer Dashboard as normal.
- Customers will receive an email confirmation for each application, directly from ComReg for their registration and any registration made by Vonage on behalf of the customer.
