Sender ID Guidelines

Alphanumeric Sender ID

It is mandatory to use an alpha sender id when sending messages to Austria.

*All alphanumeric Sender IDs (the business name shown at the top of an SMS message) used to send messages to Austrian mobile numbers must be pre-registered in the official Sender ID directory managed by RTR-GmbH. If your Sender ID is not registered, your messages will be blocked and will not be delivered to Austrian recipients from 1 October 2026.

Key Dates

  • 1 July 2026 — Registration portal opens
  • 21 August 2026 — Deadline to submit existing sender data (Official date is 24 August 2026 for one time bulk submission but we need 1 business day to prepare the file for submission)
  • 1 October 2026 — Blocking begins for unregistered sender IDs 
Numeric Sender ID

Numeric sender IDs are not supported unless offered by Vonage's 2-way service.

The numeric Sender IDs will be overwritten to ensure delivery.

Generic Sender ID Generic sender IDs such as INFO, SMS, NOTICE etc are prohibited. Please use a representative brand name or business name as your alpha sender id.

Use-Case & Content Guidelines

Marketing Traffic Before sending any marketing traffic, opt-in consent is required from handset users.

 

Additional Information

P2P traffic is prohibited.

Numbers in Austria can be procured for or direct use only. Onward reselling of numbers is prohibited.

No political, religious, unsolicited promotion, or gambling content.

There are no additional content restrictions beyond those in our Acceptable Use Policy.
