Colombia SMS Features and Restrictions
Overview
We use adaptive routing throughout Colombia to ensure continuous high quality.
Sender ID
Sender ID is generally changed to Short Code 85307 or 87457 and occasionally to a local long number to ensure successful delivery.
Content
There are no additional content restrictions beyond those in our Acceptable Use Policy.
Unicode
Unicode is supported.
Other Features or Restrictions
Delivery Receipts
Delivery receipts are network receipts and therefore should not be taken as an accurate measure of delivery.
Local Number Prefix
Local and mobile Colombian numbers are changing to include 60 as the prefix before the area code. As of 1 December 2021, the old/existing format will no longer work for local numbers.

- New number format: 576012345678
Promotional / Marketing traffic
The CRC (Comision de Regulacion de Comunicaciones) has applied new regulations in Colombia to avoid fraud and phishing traffic in this market. These regulations will be effective for promotional / marketing traffic from September 1st, 2022. This requires separating Transactional and Promotional traffic onto different API Keys.
The regulations below are mandatory for all the Applications and Content Providers (PCA) and Technology Integrators:
- Allowed hours to send marketing/promotional campaigns are from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm local Colombian Time.
- The carrier will add their name to the beginning or a url to the end of the message.
