Symptom
When sending SMS to the US or Canada, you receive Rejection Code 10 or Error Code 15.
Applies To
- Outbound SMS
- US
- Canada
- Illegal Sender
Resolution
For messages to the US or Canada, the Sender ID should be a US pre-approved long number, toll-free, 10 DLC, or short code that is associated with your Vonage account or API key.
Cause
The rejection may happen for either of below two cases:
- You are not sending from either a US pre-approved long number, toll-free, 10 DLC, or short code.
- The number you are sending from is not associated with your Vonage account or API key.
For each API, there is a different error code that indicates that the Sender ID is illegal or invalid for this message:
- SMPP API: Rejection Code 10 - Source Address - Submission Control Failure
- REST API: Error Code 15 - Illegal Sender
If a different Sender ID is submitted, the message will be rejected with one of these errors, depending on which API is being used.
