Question
Can I set my own Sender ID address?
Applies To
- Sender ID
- Outbound SMS
Answer
Yes. Vonage offers a full-featured high-quality messaging service including the global support of dynamic Sender ID. If the local market you want to send to allows it, you are able to set the desired Sender ID by modifying the &from parameter in your HTTP request.
You can use any alphanumeric string up to 11 characters (or up to 15 numeric characters) to describe your application or brand where supported by carriers, for example, any of these characters: 1234567890abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
Symbols and special characters outside the standard Latin alphabet are not permitted and the use of any other characters to the above may affect the delivery of the SMS (the originator may be altered or delivery may fail).
Some markets may allow use of the character + before a numeric-only Sender ID, but others, such as Australia, may not. To ensure the maximum delivery rates we recommend you do not append a + before numeric Sender IDs. The handsets and local carriers will then manage the conversion of a valid numeric Sender ID into a number the handset can reply to.
Moreover for resellers, you can simply let your customers decide which Sender ID to use.
Note: Illegitimate use of SMS spoofing (such as impersonating another person, company or product) is strictly forbidden.
Additional Information
Further Sender ID restrictions may apply depending on the destination number and local market regulations. See our information on country-specific features and restrictions.
