Numbering Plan Change — September 2026
The Gambia is migrating from a 7-digit to a 9-digit subscriber number format effective 4 September 2026. The affected operators and their new prefixes are: Africell (+220 87XXXXXXX), Comium (+220 86XXXXXXX), and QCell (+220 83XXXXXXX). Gamcel numbers are not affected and remain in the existing format.
Both old and new formats will be accepted during the parallel running period between 4 September and 30 November 2026. From 1 December 2026, only the new 9-digit format will be accepted. Customers who have hardcoded Gambian numbers in their systems must update those numbers to the new format before 1 December 2026.
