Question
In which countries does Vonage API not operate?
Applies To
- Vonage API
- International Business
- Regional Restrictions
Answer
Vonage is based in the United States. Therefore, it follows laws, regulations and required guidance from the United States, including as it relates to the operations of our international business and commerce. This means we are restricted from operating or providing services in certain countries that are facing embargoes, sanctions, or other restrictions imposed by the U.S. government.
The list of countries restricted due to embargo or sanction are as follows:
- Cuba
- Crimea
- North Korea
- Sudan
- Iran
- Syria
- Russian Federation
- Belarus
The list of restricted regions are as follows:
- Donetsk People's Republic of Ukraine
- Luhansk People's Republic of Ukraine
- Zaporizhzhia Oblast
- Kherson Oblast
Services are also restricted in the following countries due to obligations imposed by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States:
- China
- Hong Kong
- Macau
Attempting to sign up to use Vonage API services in these countries and regions will surface a “This operation cannot be performed - country is not supported or the server is under maintenance” error.
New customers identified as having a physical address, IP address or phone numbers linked to these countries will receive the above error message and no longer be able to create a new account/have access to their existing Vonage account/dashboard/services.
