Activating Two Factor Authentication on Your Vonage Video API Account
Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) or Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on your Vonage Video API account.
- Video API
2FA, or MFA (for Multi-Factor Authentication) is a process by which you are required more than one set of information in order to access your account. The first set, as we have been using for a long time, is a set of username & password. The second authentication can be biometrical, security questions, temporary digits, virtual keys etc.
At Vonage, we use the power of our Verify API to send a temporary 6 digits code to your phone number. This allows us to make sure that the person accessing your account is in possession of your device, increasing the likelihood that it is yourself, preventing anyone else on the web to steal your password and use it to control your account.
To enable 2FA on your account:
- Log in to your Vonage Video API account.
- Navigate to your profile settings from the upper right corner.
- Scroll to Security Settings and enable the Use 2FA toggle.
- Enter your phone number and click Submit.
- Enter the temporary code sent to your mobile to confirm the number is correct.
- Get confirmation that the 2FA is enabled.
You can decide to trust a device. Trusting a device means that every time you log in to your account from that device, you will not need to use the second factor authentication (here the temporary digit code sent to you phone). You will instead only need to use your password.
Make sure to disable 2FA as soon as possible from a trusted device in the event you lose your phone or change numbers, in order to re-enable it using the new phone number. This will avoid situations where you could find yourself being locked out of your account.
