Why are there different meanings to Vonage API SMS Error Codes?

Answer

We return error codes at two distinct moments during the message request submission and delivery receipt reception phases. When you first submit a request to our API we will return a code in the API response that indicates whether or not we were able to accept your request and if not, why not. These response codes are listed in the Send an SMS API documentation.

Finally there is an error code returned in a delivery receipt that reflects the final delivery status of your request. You can find descriptions of these SMS error codes in our knowledge base article on delivery error codes.
