Australia SMS Features and Restrictions
Overview
Australia is an extremely complex SMS market and numerous filters are in place. SS7 networks are gradually being shut down and a stable, direct connection is essential to ensure SMS delivery.
We are using fully featured connections, therefore dynamic Sender ID, concatenated SMS, and delivery to ported numbers are supported.
Sender ID
There are no additional Sender ID restrictions beyond those in our Acceptable Use Policy.
Content
Promotional Content
Promotional sms is supported in all AU networks provided sms content must includes opt-out or UNSUB information in it. For bulk sms or promotional campaign, please contact your account manager or vonage support.
SPAM Content
To ensure ongoing compliance with the Australian SPAM Act 2003, commercial SMS messages:
- Can only be sent with the consent of the recipient (the account-holder)
- Must include clear sender information
- Must contain an unsubscribe function
Failure to comply may lead to a number of penal actions by ACMA, including formal warnings, fines and mandated account suspension. If there are any special processes we should follow on our side to report SPAM to you, submit a Support request.
